Grand Rapids Carpet Racing

The carpet racing guys came to Grand Rapids this week to race at Fred and Andrews Rapid Competition Raceway. When I arrived at 8:15 am, the place was already packed and the only pit space available was in the front of the facility.

It was my first foray into carpet oval, so I didn't really know what to expect. I didn't even have a car completely put together, so I was a little freaked out by all of the new terminology. Luckily, the guys there were very helpful and a few of them came right over to offer assistance and any parts that I was missing.

The one thing that I have always found in oval racing, is that the racers are fun loving, laid back guys that want to help others. Every time I go to the track and some of the heavy hitters are there, it's like taking a class in RC engineering. I'm probably not smart enough to truly understand some of the stuff they were showing me, but I'm a pretty good parrot. Eventually, some of this will sink in and I hope to get halfway competitive at some point.

For now, it was fun, just to get out there and race. I hope to get out Tuesday night to run a few laps after work and see if I understand it any better after that.
